Clear TPU covers beside an Oura Ring 5

Oura Ring 5 vs Oura Ring 4 Covers: Fit, Materials and What to Choose

If you are choosing between an Oura Ring 5 cover and an Oura Ring 4 cover, start with fit: covers are generation-specific and should not be swapped between the two rings. After that, choose the material and pack based on how you wear your ring. Clear TPU keeps the ring’s own finish visible, while metallic-look or painted TPU changes the appearance. Compatible Bandsmith covers are designed to charge while installed when correctly aligned, but they should be removed and dried after water or sweat. The guide below compares current options without promising protection from every kind of damage.

Why Oura Ring 5 and Oura Ring 4 covers fit differently

Oura identifies Ring 5 and Ring 4 as different generations with different sizing systems. Ring 5 is offered in sizes 6–13, while Ring 4 is offered in sizes 4–15, and Oura recommends using the sizing kit made for the generation you plan to buy. The exterior dimensions and proportions are also not something a cover should be expected to bridge. Even when two rings share the same printed size number, that does not make their accessories interchangeable.

The practical rule is simple: use a cover listed for Oura Ring 5 on Ring 5, and use a cover listed for Oura Ring 4 on Ring 4. Before ordering, check both the generation and the size shown on the product page. A close fit matters because a cover that is too loose may shift, while one designed around another ring shape may not seat as intended.

Gen 3 adds another detail. Some Bandsmith Ring 4 products are also explicitly made for compatible Gen 3 shapes and sizes, but that compatibility belongs to those specific listings. It should not be assumed for every Ring 4 accessory. Oura Ring 4 Ceramic is another separate case: the painted TPU option described below does not fit the Oura Ring 4 Ceramic.

Clear, metallic-look, and painted TPU options

TPU is a flexible material that can wrap around the ring without the rigid feel of a hard shell. Within that category, finish and pack format change the experience more than the basic purpose.

For Ring 5, the 0.5 mm clear TPU three-pack is available in sizes 6–13. It is the most neutral choice when you want the ring’s existing color to remain visible. Clear material can show moisture, dust, or wear over time, so the value of a multipack is practical: you can rotate a clean cover in while another is being washed and dried.

If you prefer a styled finish, Ring 5 has two metallic-look flexible TPU formats. The 0.5 mm metallic-look three-pack is currently offered in sizes 8–11, and the 0.5 mm metallic-look single cover is also currently available in sizes 8–11. These are flexible TPU covers with a decorative finish, not metal jewelry. The three-pack makes sense for color rotation; the single makes sense when you already know which look you want.

For Ring 4 and compatible Gen 3 applications, the 0.6 mm metallic-look TPU cover provides the styled-finish route. The 0.6 mm ceramic-color cover is painted TPU, not ceramic. Its name describes the color direction rather than the material, and it does not fit the Oura Ring 4 Ceramic.

Choose a cover by how you use your ring

For everyday errands, desk work, or travel, start with the look you want and the maintenance you are willing to do. Clear TPU is visually quiet, but it makes trapped lint or moisture easier to notice. Metallic-look and painted TPU can coordinate with an outfit, but decorative finishes may show friction sooner than plain clear material. No finish stays new under every combination of rubbing, hand products, chemicals, and grit.

For workouts, lifting, gardening, moving boxes, or other contact-heavy routines, treat a cover as a removable buffer rather than permission to ignore impact. It can take some routine rubbing that would otherwise reach the ring first, but it is not safety equipment and it cannot prevent every kind of damage. If an activity could crush, snag, or injure a finger, follow the ring maker’s safety guidance and remove the ring when appropriate.

Pack choice is mostly about rotation. A three-pack is useful when you want a spare after a sweaty session or a few colors for different settings. A single cover keeps the purchase focused when you know your preferred finish. A silicone protector can suit you if you prefer a softer, grippier feel or more color variety. Silicone generally feels more covered than slim TPU, and a thicker protector or one that shifts may make charger seating less consistent, so fit still matters. The separate TPU cover versus silicone protector guide explains these feel, bulk, and maintenance tradeoffs without assuming one material is best for everyone.

Charging, water, and finish care

The compatible Bandsmith covers in this guide are designed for charging with the cover on when the ring and charger are correctly aligned. Set the covered ring on the charger carefully and confirm that it sits securely and charging begins normally. If the ring does not sit reliably, charging is interrupted, or the cover has shifted, remove the cover and inspect the fit before trying again. Our cover, charging, and sensor guide explains alignment and troubleshooting in more detail.

After water exposure or a sweaty workout, remove the cover, rinse away residue as appropriate, and dry the ring and the inside of the cover completely before reassembly. Leaving moisture or grit trapped between two surfaces can create irritation, odor, or rubbing. Regular removal also gives you a chance to inspect both pieces instead of allowing debris to stay hidden.

Decorative finishes deserve gentle care. Friction, chemicals, alcohol-based products, lotions, and trapped grit can wear a metallic-look or painted surface. Avoid aggressive scrubbing and let each piece dry naturally. These habits can reduce avoidable wear, but they are care practices rather than a promise about lifespan. Follow Oura’s product safety and use guidance for the ring itself.

A quick decision checklist

  • Confirm the generation: Ring 5 and Ring 4 covers are not interchangeable.
  • Confirm the exact size: check the size range on the individual Bandsmith listing before purchase.
  • Choose the look: clear TPU shows the ring; metallic-look or painted TPU changes the appearance.
  • Choose the pack: use a three-pack for rotation or a single when one finish is enough.
  • Plan the routine: confirm correct charger alignment with the cover installed; after water or sweat, remove, clean, and completely dry both surfaces.
  • Keep expectations realistic: a thin cover can reduce direct everyday contact, but it cannot eliminate wear or impact risk.
